The Operation After-School Program provides a safe environment for youth to learn, thrive, and gain the tools to succeed. Operation Reach is responding to the needs reported by school staff, parents, children, and social workers that a quality after-school program is needed in this area. A child participating in the Operation Reach After-School Program reported that she not only needs help after-school but also during the summer months because she forgets what she learned during the summer break. The Operation Reach After-School Program is open 6 days a week all year long. A 14 year old Saginaw girl that participates in the Operation Reach After-School Program reported that she doesn't play outside anymore because of too many shootings in her neighborhood. "There are always shootings, fights, and people getting killed. It seems like every month, someone is killed by my house. I'm in the house all the time. I'm too afraid to go outside," she said. Operation Reach goes to her neighborhood and provides transportation to the After-School program so that this young lady is out of harm’s way and has many positive activities to participate in.
